What is the subject for your photo essay and where did you take your photographs?
The subject for my photo essay is mourning. I decided to take my photographs at a graveyard.
Why did you select this place? Why is it important to you?
I thought it would be cool and different to photograph here.
What concept are you trying to portray about this topic?
When i took these pictures i was trying to portray sadness and mourning the lost of people.
Visually, how did your images capture the narrative or “story” of your essay?
My pictures capture the sadness because it is all black and white. It shows sadness because there is rain drops on the windows and it is cloudy and makes a sad mood.
Discuss: the order and arrangement of your photos, composition, viewpoint, angle, lighting, color vs black and white....
The order of the pictures was put in order to make it look like one big picture. Not all pictures connect as well as others but they all make a story. The viewpoint is also key because in multiple pictures it helps to capture the raindrops or “ tears” i was trying to convey. Having black and white helps to keep the mood i was trying to convey.
How did you visually unify your series of photos?
All the pictures come together to tell a story of sadness and mournfulness. They convey loss. It captures all the different moods of a graveyard. All the different feelings that it can have.
What picture do you find compositionally the best?
I think the first picture is the best compositionally because it is like a very peaceful picture and helps to execute the sadness of the story line. I like it the best also because it reminds me of the older days because of the older tomb stones and the cracks in the stone make it look older and better compositionally.
